Reforming
the Homeland Security Department Is Unlikely
With all due respect to the residents of
Fargo, North Dakota, Islamic terrorists half way across the
world probably do not have their city on a target list.Countless
other small and medium-sized towns across the country are
in the same favorable situation.Where “national security”
is allegedly at stake, the public’s fear can be manipulated
to pad budgets and information can be withheld from public
and media scrutiny—thus eliminating the “embarrassment factor”
that sometimes impedes government agencies from squandering
the taxpayer’s dollars -Ivan Eland/the Independent Institute

constitutional liberties apply to every American, even those
who are considered strange or unconventional.Beyond that,
under the Bush administration, we have watched the size and
scope of the federal government burgeon to proportions not
seen since Lincoln invaded the South. It seems clear that we
are entering an era of unlimited and unbridled federal power
and authority. Can we assume, therefore, that more Wacos are
on America's horizon? -Chuck Baldwin/Gulf 1
