New Orleans Levee Breaks

As the death toll from Hurricane Katrina reached at least 65, a levee holding back the waters of Lake Pontchartrain sustained a breach two blocks long overnight in the Lakefront area of New Orleans. The breach triggered rapidly rising floodwaters in the city's downtown and prompted at least one hospital to evacuate patients by air.-CNN

Study: Terrorists Exploit Immigration Laws

Some used false documents to enter the United States; others let their legal visas expire once in the country. And at least 21 foreign nationals became naturalized U.S. citizens before being charged or convicted as terrorists. In all, at least 94 foreign-born visitors accused of terror activity between 1993 and 2004 exploited federal immigration laws to enter or remain in the United States, according to a study being released Tuesday.-AP

Gulf Coast residents staggered from the body-blow inflicted by Hurricane Katrina, with more than a million people sweltering without power, miles of lowlands swamped and at least 55 dead - a number likely to increase as rescuers reach the hardest-hit areas…"This is our tsunami," Biloxi Mayor A.J. Afghan Opium Production Down Just 2 Pct.

Oil Rises a Second Day After Hurricane Shuts U.S. Gulf Output

Crude oil rose for a second day in New York on concern Hurricane Katrina damaged platforms and ports on the Gulf of Mexico, where 30 percent of U.S. oil is produced. Katrina crossed the U.S. coast yesterday after closing the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port, the biggest U.S. oil import terminal, and shutting 92 percent of normal Gulf output. Damage from the storm to production equipment and refineries may take weeks to assess, investors and company officials said -Bloomberg

Philippines warns of more attacks after ferry bomb
