Is America Headed Towards Fascism? — Commentary

Back in 1935, amid the flurry of legislation by FDR (Employment Relief Act, Works Progress Administration, Civilian Conservation Corps, Social Security), Arthur Henning of the Chicago Tribune said, "The New Deal will bring the Communist Party within striking distance of overthrow of the American form of government..." - NewsWithViews.com

Protests Hit Indonesia Over Planned Fuel Price Hike

Angry students burned tyres and seized an oil truck in Jakarta on Monday in protests that hit four Indonesian cities over the government's planned hike in domestic fuel prices. - Reuters

Five Days That Shook World Politics

There is no Cold War ahead. Yet the period between February 20 and 24 was extraordinary. Seldom have fault-lines in world politics surfaced with such clarity. - Asia Times

Water: America’s Looming Crisis

At a whopping 36 million on its way to 56 million people in the next 30 years, California leads the nation as the site of the next water crisis. In Arizona, it’s so hot and dry, a man can’t spit on a 110 degree summer day. Like lemmings jumping over a cliff, Colorado follows as it doubles its population by four million people at mid century. - NewsWithViews

How Communism and the U.N. Set Out to Destroy America Part 1 — Commentary

I remember the protests that took place near the lawns of the White House. From the late 1960s into the 1980s, shrill voices filled Washington, DC with anti-American rhetoric wrapped in blame-America-first rampages. It made me wonder why those speaking and those attending didn't just pack up and move to different pastures˜places where they could build something instead of trying to tear down the nation that gave them so much freedom. - NewsWithViews

Rule of (International) Law

One of the more dangerous fads in Supreme Court jurisprudence of late is something called "international law," in which American laws are measured not just against the Constitution but against the laws of foreign countries. The purpose is to put the U.S. law in what supporters delicately call a "global context." What they really mean is that they can't persuade enough Americans of their views to change U.S. law so they want to persuade judges to do it for them. - Wall Street Journal

Should the U.N. be lord of the oceans?

"Sovereignty. The issue is huge. The mere mention of Kofi Annan in the U.N. caused the crowd to go into a veritable fit. The coalition wants America strong and wants the American flag flying overseas, not the pale blue of the U.N." - WorldNetDaily.com

Iran refuses to stop uranium enrichment

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told journalists in Tehran that most European countries did not agree with Britain in its call on Iran to permanently stop the enrichment of uranium. - UPI

Russian deal will send nuclear fuel to Iran soon

Coming Military Uses of Nanotechnology

Militaries all around the world are about to embark upon the use of Nano-materials--Nano-bots and Nano-technologies that will make current WMD look miniscule.

Will Bush’s judicial nominees win with the “nuclear option”?

Most popular histories of Congress include an exchange, very likely apocryphal, in which Washington and Jefferson discuss the difference between the House and the Senate. “Why did you pour that coffee into your saucer?” Washington asks. “To cool it,” Jefferson replies. “Even so,” Washington says, “we pour legislation into the senatorial saucer to cool it.” But the filibuster rule may soon be altered in a dramatic way, and the Senate itself may change along with it -JEFFREY TOOBIN/NewYorker

North Korea to suspend nuke drive for aid, US pledge--report

North Korea has told South Korea it would return to talks on its nuclear drive in June and offer to suspend the program in hopes of aid and a US pledge not to invade, a Japanese newspaper said Monday. The communist state told Seoul through unofficial channels about its intention in late February after it announced it was indefinitely pulling out of nuclear talks, the Sankei Shimbun said, citing Japanese government sources

$19 billion natural gas deals signed

Qatar's state-run petroleum company and two international oil companies signed deals on Sunday worth about $19 billion to develop liquefied natural gas for European and U.S. markets.Qatar Petroleum and Exxon Mobil Corp. announced the launch of a $12.8 billion liquefied natural gas, or LNG, project that aims to ferry gas to Britain for the next 25 years

Political funding debate to play out

The civil lawsuit itself is small: five losing Democratic House candidates against the treasurer of Texans for a Republican Majority, or TRMPA.But the lawsuit is painted against a backdrop of state and national politics that has ensnared Craddick and U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay in the ongoing controversy -Houston Chronicle

Early French vote on EU constitution

The great and the good of France will put on a grand display of Gallic unity in the symbolic setting of the Palace of Versailles today in an attempt to reverse a slide in support for the EU constitution. In the gilded splendour of L'Aile du Midi (the south wing), 576 deputies and 331 senators will formally approve changes to the French constitution to allow the EU constitution to be put before the people -Guardian UK

Kyrgyzstan Votes, Some Candidates Excluded

Kyrgyzstan chose a new parliament Sunday, with some opposition figures and prominent politicians disqualified from the ballot in a country once seen as an island of democracy in former Soviet Central Asia.President Askar Akayev is prevented by the constitution from seeking a third term, but opposition forces have suggested Sunday's vote would be manipulated to ensure a compliant parliament that would amend the constitution to allow him to run again

Governors take aim at high school

While President Bush's proposal to expand his signature No Child Left Behind law to the nation's high schools has all but flunked before arrival on Capitol Hill, many of the nation's governors are claiming the mantle of high school reform as their own -Christian Science Monitor
