Homeland Security Secretary Michael
Chertoff will announce wide-ranging changes to the nation's
embattled disaster-response agency on the heels of a
House report blaming government-wide ineptitude for
mishandling Hurricane Katrina relief.-AP
Polls indicate that the Bush administration
is succeeding in whipping up fear and hysteria about
Iran. The secretary of defense is promising Americans
decades-long war. Is death in battle Bush's solution
to the job depression? Will Asians finance a decades-long
war for a bankrupt country?-Paul Craig Roberts
Brazil will build an air-to-air missile
with South Africa and buy nine used F-5 jet fighters
from Saudi Arabia, a leading newspaper reported Sunday,
citing military sources.-TerraDaily.com
The more than 18-hour delay in news
emerging that the Vice President of the United States
had shot a man, sending him to an intensive care unit
with his wounds, grew even more curious late Sunday.
E&P has learned that the official confirmation of the
shooting came about only after a local reporter in Corpus
Christi, Texas, received a tip from the owner of the
property where the shooting occurred and called Vice
President Cheney's office for confirmation.-Editor and

A United Nations' inquiry will call
for the immediate closure of the U.S. detention center
at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the prosecution of officers
and politicians "up to the highest level" who are accused
of torturing detainees. The U.N. Human Rights Commission
report, to be published this week, concludes that Washington
should put the 520 detainees on trial or release them

The Venezuelan government has given
a Christian missionary group from the US until Sunday
to leave the country.President Hugo Chavez has repeatedly
called for the expulsion of the New Tribes Mission,
saying they are American imperialists. He has called
them spies of the CIA and colonialists -BBC
In a rare move, the rebel leader, Prachanda,
spoke out about the conflict that has claimed some 13,000
lives - and the possible exile or execution of Nepal's
King Gyanendra. It was difficult to believe that the
man sitting modestly in the corner was Pushpa Kamal
Dahal, better known under his nom-de-guerre of Prachanda
("The Fierce One") -BBC
I've been resting much more peacefully
since George Bush pontificated at the National Guard
Memorial Building a few days ago and revealed that our
terrorist enemies are too stupid to breathe. That means,
of course, that they're also too stupid to bomb the
daylights out of us. Hence, my sounder sleep -Becky

Sometimes it’s the small abuses scurrying
below radar that reveal how profoundly the Bush administration
has changed America in the name of national security.
Buried within the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism
Prevention Act of 2004 is a regulation that bars most
public access to birth and death certificates for 70
to 100 years -In These Times
What is rather ironic is the fact that
Kenneth Lay wasn't just buying the favors of the Bush
administration, he also tossed more than $100,000 to
Gray Davis who ends up getting recalled over the whole
mess and replaced by a morally bankrupt pig named Arnold
Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger is dangerous, he's completely
inept and California needs him gone as soon as possible(internal

A controversial Kuwait-based construction
firm accused of exploiting employees and coercing low-paid
laborers to work in war-town Iraq is now building the
new $592-million U.S. embassy in Baghdad. Once completed,
the compound will likely be the biggest, most fortified
diplomatic compound in the world -CorpWatch
This administration is always after
power and control; and, in their pursuit, sacrificing
governance is never a problem, hardly even a consideration.
Our unfettered commander-in-chief presidency desires
only to be ever less fettered -- with its own hand-picked
operatives ever more in positions of command in the
Washington bureaucracy. It need not be capable of actually
governing. What follows, then, is the third installment
in an unending series we've been calling the Fallen
Legion -Nick Turse/TomDispatch.com
Now I have heard everything. Well,
almost everything.Apparently some Congressmen, finally
realizing that being a nation depends upon acting like
one, have proposed building a wall along America's southern
border, to staunch the influx of illegal-immigrant invaders
from Mexico. Immediately came forth Mexico's Presidente
Vincente Fox, declaring that he would not "permit" such
a project to go forward -Dr. Edwin Vieira, Jr., Ph.D.,
J.D./NewsWithViews
A blistering report by House investigators
said Chertoff was "confused" about Brown's role and
authority, and that it was unclear why he chose him,
given his lack of skills and his hostility to FEMA's
downgrading under new plans.-Truthout.org
"This is not the Soviet Union. Let's
not overstate the case," Rice said.-AP
